Sumitomo Gearbox Repairs - Highfield Gears

Sumitomo Gearbox Repairs

One facet of an even larger, multinational company, the Sumitomo gearboxes and drive technologies are used by companies, and industries, across the world. This presence was expanded further in 2011 with the purchase of Hansen Industrial Transmissions. Here at Highfield Gears we have been around for almost as long as this global behemoth (Sumitomo was founded in 1919, we were founded eight years later), and have, in that time, worked on hundreds, if not thousands, of Sumitomo transmission units.

This level of hands-on experience means we can help you if your Sumitomo gearbox needs repairing, reconditioning, or upgrading entirely.

We have a large portfolio of drawings, photos and information to draw on, all with the sole purpose of helping to solve your gearbox problems, limit your downtime, and ensure your business doesn’t suffer when your gearboxes needs a service.

As well as this particular brand of gearbox, we can also repair other gearboxes, from a range of different manufactures. From the aforementioned Hansen, DB Santasalo, Flender, Radicon, Sumitomo, Renold, Chemineer and Siemens – we can service them all.

So, if you have a gearbox made by this brand, or any of the other brands we have mentioned, do not hesitate to get in touch with us here at Highfield Gears today on 01484 531 010 or email us at sales@hgi-uk.co.uk. We’re confident we can help you because we have worked with other big companies such as Heineken and Ineos, as well as other businesses in the UK, in areas such as Oxford, Chester and Sunderland, and further afield in Europe.

We Can Repair, Recondition, Or Upgrade Your Sumitomo Gearboxes

When a fault appears in your industrial gearbox that becomes so detrimental and serious that it stops your business from being able to make the goods it is known for, it is a serious issue.

From gears slipping out of place and cracking to casings becoming worn after overuse, there are hundreds of problems that can occur to an industrial gearbox, no matter how well built it was in the first place.

Thankfully, here at Highfield Gears, we have just as many solutions as there are problems. We have spent the last few decades investing in the highest quality machining, including gear cutting tools, lathes and advanced CNC machines. We’ve invested in this because we’re passionate about quality, and we prefer to make gear components, and fix gearboxes, ourselves – it’s as simple as that.

Running an in-house operation allows us to track quality, document our progress, keep you informed, and ensure the process is done far, far quicker, without compromising on quality, because we aren’t relying on a third party to complete some of the processes.

What follows is just a few of the services you can expect to benefit from the next time you require work on your Sumitomo gears or gearbox.

Our Previous Work With Sumitomo Gears

We have spent years working on Sumitomo gearboxes, and their individual gear components, and can use nimble, bespoke solutions that can fix a whole host of issues.

Our process, from the moment we receive your Sumitomo gearbox, be it a Sumitomo Cyclo or other type of gearbox, starts with a thorough inspection and analysis of current performance. We analyse vibrations, component quality, torque output, state of the individual gears as well as much, much more. This level of information gives us a platform on which to decide how best to go about fixing your gearbox. During this early phase, we also begin our documentation process that informs you, the client, about our decisions and reasonings. After all, your gearboxes are a huge investment and you want peace of mind, knowing a talented team is looking after it.

We then go about applying solutions, using machinery, and drawing on decades of experience. Before long, your gearbox will be back with you, working perfectly and helping to fuel the success of your business.

Ways To Keep Your Sumitomo Applications Well Maintained

Our gearbox service experts are fantastic at what they do and can help repair your Sumitomo gearbox, as we've mentioned. However, it's far more preferable to regularly inspect and keep your unit well maintained without the need to invest in repairs, even if those services are competitively priced. Here, we're explaining four ways that you keep these critical, heavy-duty applications from faltering entirely.

Protect The Precision Gear Units From Dust And Pollutions

To avoid comprehensive Sumitomo gearbox repair, ensure that these types of gearboxes are kept away from excessive amounts of dust and pollutants. It cannot be overstated how badly affected gearboxes can get from seemingly innocuous dust, dirt, and pollutants. Once they nestle into your systems they can limit the degree to which components can move and perform at speed. The best way to avoid dust affecting performance is to keep them in clean rooms. If that can’t be avoided, investing in ventilation systems will go a long way to keeping units operational.

Keep Dangerous Fluids From The Gear Technology

Water, oils, and chemicals can cause real damage to gearbox brands such as Sumitomo. The breathers, which help to keep components cool, may inadvertently suck in said liquids if they are kept close to the gearbox. Keeping the drive systems away from these will help to ensure the breathers are only sucking in the air, and keeping things cool.

Monitor The Condition Of The Seals

The seals keep lubrication in, and unwanted pollutants out. The seals are vital to keep the product, and its drives, clean, and functioning at optimum levels. Be wary of eroding and cracked seals as these can quickly become a much larger, more detrimental problem. Before you turn on the gearbox, check for seal damage. This is the best way to avoid leaks, poor performance from the key features and components, and to spot problems early.

Use Lubrication

Given the high speeds and extreme shock loads that industrial gearboxes go through it’s no wonder that the correct lubrication is needed to ensure efficient performance. Without lubrication, temperatures can soar and components will soon crack and clunk to a halt. The correct Sumitomo lubrication will stop plenty of problems. But, before you do pour in lubrications, check that it is the correct one for your type of gearbox. Too often, companies put any old oil or lubricant in the gearbox only to cause themselves more issues in the long run.

Who Are Sumitomo?

Who Are Sumitomo?

Founded in Japan, in 1919, by a man named Shun’ya Tōji, Sumitomo has grown to become a giant general trading company. A diversified corporation, Sumitomo has been creating Cyclo gearboxes, as well as other gearbox types, and, as of 2014, they had over 74,000 employees located across Japan and the rest of the world.

To further their gearbox capabilities, the corporation, as we mentioned, purchased fellow industrial gearbox manufacturer, Hansen. Since 2011, they have expanded their gearbox capabilities which have led them to become a household name in this industry.
