How Our Gearbox Refurbishment Service Will Help You Repair, Recondition, Or Upgrade Your Units

As we'll detail below, we offer a range of services that can help your transmission units return to optimum efficiency.

Our team is just as comfortable creating individual parts or components, as they are stripping an entire, 18-tonne gearbox. Having done it all for decades, nothing phases our experts. We begin any gearbox repair service with a thorough inspection of your products. Using condition monitoring technologies, we examine the geared motor units’ key features such as maximum load capacity, torque capacities, power capacity, and other key elements, to determine what it is that has gone wrong. This inspection informs us as to what solution is most appropriate for your specific gearbox to ensure quiet running during operation, and optimal efficiency.

From there, it’s all about fixing the problems and getting your business back up and running. Throughout the process, we’ll keep in touch and inform you of our progress via regular catch-ups, reports, and pictures. We chose not to take our expertise overseas, favouring an in-house approach, which allows us to track quality and ensure everything we do is done to the high standards that we, and you, should rightly expect. This decision also means downtime is reduced, as are costs and, in general, both our team, and your business, aren’t waiting on suppliers to ship parts or get back with vital information because we’re controlling everything in the process.

Our Different Gearbox Services

Industrial Gearbox Rebuild

Onsite inspections

Before you even have to entertain the idea of removing an entire gearbox from your factory or headquarters, let a member of our team visit your site and inspect it. This allows them to determine what's wrong, request information, and decide whether or not the gearbox needs to be transported to our Huddersfield factory for repairs.

Gearbox Repair Specialist

Renold Gears repairs, upgrades or service

Renold Gears gearboxes and transmission units are very well made but like all machinery, there will come a time when a service, repair or upgrade is needed. As we've spoken about, our team has the capabilities to approach any problem in a holistic and timely manner, the years we have spent developing different types of equipment allows us to complete, and offer, a whole host of industrial gearbox repair services.

CNC Milling Company

Preventative maintenance

Preventing a small problem from manifesting into something bigger is the goal for most businesses. This service will fix those small, seemingly insignificant, problems before they reach a point where they fundamentally disrupt your daily operations.

Spare parts

When your geared motors require a spare part you want a service that is quick, meets design requirements and can keep up with the speed range, ratio range, and be able to handle the maximum strength load that is put upon it during operation. We have a range of options available and can make sure the product life of the part is long and hassle-free.

Our Previous Renold Industrial Gearbox Refurbishment Work

In our decades of working in the industrial gearbox industry, we have worked on plenty of Renold gearboxes including Renold H Series and TW Series, and other models which are prevalent on the market including the R Series, K Series and JPM Series.

The opportunity to work with hardworking businesses has allowed us to fix every problem that could ever occur. Be it poor shock load conditions, gears slipping out of place, or a lack of strength under shock due to wear, we’ve seen it all.

We’ve also seen the damage that unexpected faults can have on a business, especially at inconvenient times, which is why we are proud to offer an emergency breakdown service that is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Should a gearbox become faulty during the night, or over the weekend, when your usual engineers aren’t present, our team can be there fixing your problem so that by Monday morning, or the next day, your machinery is back continuing to provide power to your business.

The Five Main Issues That Affect Gears & Gearboxes, Including Renold Gearboxes

Lateral And Torsional Vibration

As the speed and torque of gearboxes increase, so will the vibrations that are caused as a result of this pace. Resonant vibrations occur due to the multitude of twisting and side-to-side movements, as well as the spinning and whirring, that occur in the gearbox. All this movement increases the vibrations. If this happens once or twice, the gearbox can handle it. However, over time, these vibrations can cause shaft failure and cracks.

Thermal Instability

We all know that high temperatures are a bad sign and require a solution. However, thermal instability is something slightly different, yet no less important. The instability comes from the variation in temperature between the housings and the shafts found in the gearbox. Thermal instability can occur if the lubrication levels are low, or the bearings haven’t been fitted by someone with enough technical experience and, as a result, are too tight. You can combat this instability by regularly taking the temperature of your gearbox using a heat gun.

Bearing Issues

Power transmission products such as gearboxes typically fail because the bearings have been damaged in some way. Alignment issues are very common but bearings are extremely sensitive to other problems such as vibration, shock, and debris, such as dust. Very often, bearings at the bottom of the gearbox will be surrounded by a build-up of dirt and dust, and begin to corrode.

Poor Lubrication

All types of gearboxes, be they bevel gear units, helical units, worm gear units, or whichever else, rely on lubrication. Industrial gearboxes work at incredibly high speeds, in a range of applications, and without proper lubrication, things can go catastrophically wrong. Most of the time, the lubrication issues arise from having the wrong type of oil in the gearbox. You must check which type, and what amount, of lubrication your Renold gearbox typically uses.

Misaligned Components

Like poor lubrication, the misalignment of components is one of the most common reasons for gearboxes to fail. The problem begins with gears, and bearings, pitting which results in total failure. Misalignment is usually a damaging symptom of a wider problem such as thermal expansion or incorrect mounting. Misalignment also happens because companies buy the wrong industrial gearbox for the job they need. This results in them putting unrealistic expectations on the gearbox, be that speed or torque levels, which causes it to falter and become misaligned.
