How Our Team Can Help You With The Wide Range Of Radicon Gearboxes

The whole process to repair, recondition, or upgrade your Radicon gearbox, begins the moment it arrives in our gear centre.

We start by analysing the performance, input power, power generation levels, and state of the geared motors, as well as much more. This vital step in the process allows us to determine what is wrong, we then take this information and create bespoke solutions based on that data. Without this, we’re not able to provide the right solution, first time, which extends your downtime and costs you money.

After this step, we roll up our sleeves and get to work stripping and reconditioning your gearbox, or using our gear cutting tools to create gear couples, or individual gears, to replace ones that are worn, or shattered entirely. Our gear replacement service is built on decades of drawings, photographs, and files from a whole range of gearboxes, all of which makes us one of the largest gear manufacturers in the north of England. What follows is a range of our core services.

The Services That We Offer Which Can Help Your Industrial Gearboxes

Industrial Gearbox Rebuild

On-site inspections

Before you even begin to think about removing your gearbox, hiring a load-carrying lorry and having it moved to our factory, let a member of our team come and inspect your gearbox to determine what is wrong.

Gearbox Repair Specialist

Service and repair

Gearboxes, even Elecon-owned Radicon ones, will falter over time. Our team can get in there and service, or repair, them from scratch so that, before you know it, your industrial gearbox will be back and running.

CNC Milling Company

Upgrading or making individual parts

Wear and tear is part-and-parcel of owning industrial gearboxes. Over time, parts will become redundant and need to be replaced, thankfully, we have a back catalogue of information available which allows us to create parts from scratch, or from samples.

Preventative maintenance

Preventing the costly breakdown, is far better, and cheaper, than waiting for something catastrophic to go wrong, which is why we offer preventative maintenance, that nips those small problems in the bud before they manifest.

Our Service Teams Past Work With This Product Range

As has been spoken about already, our work with Radicon gearboxes is wide-ranging and comprehensive. We've endeavoured, over the decades we have been in the industry, to compile as much information as possible about this, and other, brands of gearbox, so that we can provide a swift service.

We’ve seen first hand the damaging effects of downtime and know that, when a customer gets in touch, they want an understanding, knowledgeable group of experts who can empathise with their problem. This is exactly what you can expect with Highfield Gears.

Oftentimes, gearboxes will falter at the worst possible time, be it during the middle of a very productive period, where orders need to be filled, or during a time where fewer engineers are on-site to help solve the problem. Either scenario can be devastating for a business, thankfully, we’ve ensured that companies never have to suffer for too long with our 24/7 emergency breakdown service. Should something happen, all you need to do is pick up the phone and give us a call, and, before you know it, a member of our team will be there, on hand, to fix your gearbox.

We operate an entirely in-house service here at Highfield Gears, after years of investing in lathes, CNC machines and gear cutting tools, we now no longer need to rely on third parties to help us with the gearbox repair process. As well as being great for us, we ensure that these benefits are passed on to you. By working with us, you never have to worry about processes taking longer than stated, parts not being of high quality, or not being in the know about the process. The reason we invest is so that we can turn things around quickly, track quality, and keep you informed about our plans.

Recognise These Symptoms? Here Are Some Signs That Your Radicon Transmission Might Be Faulty

Radicon Drive Systems are incredibly reliable, as are most quality power transmission units.

However, even the best gearbox range will suffer faults. Unfortunately, it can be hard to determine what the problem might be, or if it’s worth inspecting in the first place. This is especially true if you’re not a gearbox specialist and don’t necessarily know what to look for. Well, thankfully, we have detailed a few common sights and sounds that, if you see happening in your drive gear units, will more than likely indicate something has gone wrong.

Excessive Noise

A standard level of noise from a gearbox is to be expected. After all, they are big machines with plenty of moving parts. However, if you do notice that the noise produced from the Radicon transmission units is louder than usual, then take note. Excessive noise could be a sign of several issues, from misaligned gears to excessive dirt and dust clogging components.

Lots Of Heat

Properly lubricated Radicon drive systems will produce a minimal amount of heat, as will one that isn’t filled with pollution. Excessive heat can be dangerous for people walking past, and the gearbox itself. If you notice that there is a great deal of heat being emitted when you stand near the unit, that could be a sign that the breathers aren’t clean. It could also indicate there is a lack of lubrication which is causing the gears to grind and create heat through movement.

Cracks

Cracks anywhere in a gearbox should be taken seriously. A crack in a gear could lead to total malfunction and put stress on other components. Similarly, cracks that appear on casings and bearings will also greatly impact the performance of the gearbox. If you know that your gearbox has a noticeable crack in it somewhere, you should get in touch with us here at Highfield Gears. Why? Well, if a crack is allowed to expand it could become more severe and cause your entire transmission unit to break.

Leaks

Like cracks, leaks should not be ignored either. Leaking oils and lubricants will prevent your gears from running properly. Leaks can also seep into other components and, if compromised, oil can become mixed with dust, dirt, and pollution which can do real harm. While the leak itself is not ideal, the cause of it is just as bad. Leaks happen because the seals have disintegrated and are no longer of use. These seals will need to be replaced.

Clunky Noises

Like any piece of machinery, we become familiar with the ‘right noises’, and wary of clunky noises that aren’t supposed to be there. If you happen to hear unusual noises from your gearbox – it could be a sign of a problem. The clunky noise could be a result of gear misalignment or a poorly fitted part that has come loose and is bashing against a coupling, casing, or gear.
