Want To Properly Maintain Your Hansen Industrial Gear Unit? Here's How

While our industrial gearbox solutions are some of the best in the UK, day-to-day, you don't want to constantly be relying on a team to repair your gearbox. In an ideal world, you'd only require said solutions in an expected, planned manner. Planning a gearbox upgrade or repairs as part of projects is a much more economical solution than a total, unexpected gearbox malfunction. Thankfully, there is a multitude of things you can do to keep your Hansen industrial transmissions running smoothly. Here, we're explaining a few key things you and your team can do to prevent unplanned operational downtime.

Keep The Correct Lubrication Levels

Hansen transmission units, like all other gearbox drives, require the exact lubrication levels at all times. Lubrication keeps the gears running smoothly, allowing them to transfer power quickly and cleanly. As well as too little lubrication, you can also over lubricate your gearbox. To get it right, it’s important to check the specifications laid out in the Hansen manuals. As the gearbox manufacturer, they’ll be able to tell you which gearbox unit you have, and what lubrication is needed. Once you have the correct level, check its condition and make sure there isn’t damaging sediment floating in the oil.

Undergo Vibration Analysis

All brands of gearboxes make noise. From gentle humming to a significant rumble, all of that is normal. What isn’t normal is excessive vibration and unnatural sounds. Thorough vibration analysis can involve anything from observing the gearbox from afar right the way through to lifting the covers and looking at the individual gears. Vibration is a symptom as opposed to a problem. It could be a symptom of gear misalignment, an ill-fitted shaft, or the gearbox not being run in accordance with its power rating. Routine gearbox analysis should be a part of your organisation’s maintenance inspections and will go a long way to saving you time and money.

Inspect The Drive Components

A gearbox is only as good as its components. So, don’t be afraid to inspect the industrial gear unit. If there is something wrong, you will spot it. By doing this, not only can you discover obvious problems, but you also become more familiar with your gearbox. Over time, you’ll build up a picture in your mind of what a ‘good’ gearbox looks like, and can, therefore, act quicker when something goes wrong.
