How We Can Help Fix, Upgrade, Or Recondition Your DB Santasalo Gearbox

By investing in cutting-edge CNC machining, and other gear cutting and gear grinding devices, we're able to offer a complete range of services at our gearbox headquarters.

When it comes to this brand of gearbox, we really are a one-stop shop. There is no need to access parts from a competitor, send components off for repair, wait for a supplier to ship things to us from overseas, or be dependent on an unreliable supply chain, everything is done, in-house, to fix your gearbox device.

Not only does this speed up the entire process for you, and us, but it also reduces costs and means the level of downtime is reduced, without sacrificing quality. This kind of service makes us leaders in fixing these, and other brands of, gearboxes.

From the minute you get in touch with us, you’ll soon see just what a difference working with a firm, that doesn’t compromise on the details, makes for your company or organisation. We begin with a thorough inspection at our testing facility which looks to review each component of the gearbox and determine what it is that has gone wrong. We draw from previous experience, as well as a portfolio of drawings, settings and specifications, which allows us to determine an in-depth plan of action.

Our team then rolls their sleeves up and gets to work applying the pre-agreed solution; creating, grinding or repairing parts as needed. This is done to exacting standards and will be compared against pre-existing data drawn from current DB Santasalo transmission units. This means that, once we’ve finished, your gearbox will work as well, if not better, as units fixed by the brand themselves.

We’re able to track quality, ensure things are being done to the high standards we’ve set and, throughout the process, we will keep you informed about our progress by way of reports, photos, and regular contact, so you’ll always know what we’re doing, and why.

Five Ways To Keep Your Industrial Gearboxes Operating Smoothly

DB Santasalo gearboxes, or as they are sometimes known, David Brown Gear Systems, are faced with a daily barrage of application demands, high levels of torque and input power, and a wide range of other stresses. And, while our gear engineering knowledge, and ability to help when the worst happens, is matched by few, it's best to avoid entire malfunctions.

To keep complete gear units operating and helping you make products, it’s important to keep things well-maintained. Otherwise, these demanding applications will soon cause more harm than good, and damage once strong growth potential for your business.

With that in mind, we've listed five maintenance processes that you can carry out to keep things ticking over and help to retain your place as an industry leader.

Lubricate the gearbox regularly

Proper lubrication is vital to ensure the smooth running of a gearbox. Our team can advise on which lubrication is best for your DB Santasalo gearbox. Without lubrication, overheating can occur and faults will develop quickly. Signs of low lubrication include glass and oil leakage in shaft seals. These leaks could also indicate that the seals need replacing to be able to keep the lubrication in the gearbox.

Look for temperature issues

An overheated industrial gearbox is very dangerous and can be a hazard to those nearby. Temperature issues on gearboxes can take many forms. Look for foamed glass, burn marks on housings and plastic components that are disfigured. All of these are signs that your gearbox is simply too hot. A cheap way of testing if it is too hot is to spray water on it. If the water immediately evaporates on impact then you know it’s overheating.

Check the alignment of the gears

Misaligned gears can cause teeth to crack, and components to slip and break. You can observe the alignment of your gears and can quite easily spot if a specific gear, casing, or shaft isn’t where it should be.

Remove dirt and dust

Cleaning the inside of the DB Santasalo gearbox can go a long way to keeping it running. Dust and dirt, in this environment, can cause serious damage to these components. From unnecessary wear and tear to becoming an actual fire hazard – dirt and dust should be kept at an absolute minimum. A smart way to ensure this is the case is by positioning your gearbox in a room that isn’t filled with harmful pollution, such as dirt and dust.

Observe vibrations

Regular vibration analysis (i.e. looking at the gears and the bearings) will tell you a lot about the performance of the DB Santasalo gearbox. Excessive shaking and banging indicate that something within your gearbox needs fixing now, to avoid it becoming a bigger problem.
